It is with great pleasure that I announce the 2017 Analyst of the Year is from the Central Valley Crime and Intelligence Analysts Association.  Robin Meyst and Jessica Yunt of the Visalia Police Department were awarded Analyst of the Year at the California Crime and Intelligence Analysts Association Conference on September 28, 2017.

During training at a past CCIAA conference, Meyst attended a course on CompStat led by Carlsbad Police Department’s Crime Analyst, Cindy Anderson.  Throughout 2016, Yunt kept in contact with Anderson and continued to share crime analysis products.  Within that material, the brainchild of a Crime Analysis Unit Intranet was born.

Throughout 2016 and 2017, Meyst and Yunt solicited input from Command Staff, detectives, patrol, and professional staff.  A list of products / BOL types, etc. was compiled; a website page was designed and revised.  Meyst and Yunt continued working on this brainchild until it was perfected.  It was launched May 9, 2017 and has been hailed as one of the best products produced by the Crime Analysis Unit.

Every time an employee of VPD opens their computer, the Intranet site is opened.  Immediately, officers, detectives, management, and professional staff can access up-to-date information about crime, officer safety issues, and a myriad of other bulletins and notices.  Gone are the days of emailing cold information that was oftentimes tossed in the delete bin without being read.

The center section leads personnel to the most current information that can be found in the OPTIONS, NOTICE, and EVENT LIST sections.

Information in the OPTIONS section includes:

    ·       Arrests

    ·       Calls for Service

    ·       Contacts

    ·       Dashboard

    ·       Federal, State, and Local Bulletins

    ·       Officer Safety

    ·       Parolee Releases

    ·       Press Releases

    ·       Spillman Tips, Tricks, and Manuals

    ·       Stolen Vehicles

    ·       Training Bulletins

    ·       Trespass Enforcement

    ·       Wanted Bulletins

Information in the NOTICES section typically contains:

     ·       Security Checks

    ·       Officer Safety Notifications

    ·       Immediate Changes in Policies or Procedures

The EVENTS section includes typical calendar events.

The CCIAA conference provides valuable training year after year.  Two CCIAA members applied that knowledge and created a tangible, viable, outstanding work product which led to promoting crime analysis.
